Had a quick look at the WW1 medal cards  I thought that there must be something that would bring them to Aberdeen. Unfortunately there are 3 Frederick C Sollys listed  ::)

Also, he might have been in the Navy and these only cover the Army. Will check again tomorrow and have a look at the Service Records/Pension Rolls.

With Frederick born c 1888/9 (I can't believe he was economical with his age given his age at death   ::)), this is the only one coming up in the 1891 census...again in Thanet (big concentration there for that name). Everyone showing as born in Ramsgate:

William Solly 41, mariner
Mary A Solly 40
Louisa Solly 18
William Solly 16, mariner
James Solly 13, mariner
Emily Solly 11
John Solly 5
Frederick Solly    2

Monica

Added: 1901 brings up a few more possibilities. I think we need to wait for Frederick to see what shows on either the marriage cert. or his death cert. for parents' details.

Hi Monica  & Dawn  :)

Wondered about a naval connection but couldn't find anything last night in the records that I have access to. Will have another look.

I'm still wondering about the possibility of a second marriage for Edith, given that we can't find a birth reg for Lydia under either name.  She would have been 18 when Lydia was born so it is possible but I think we've both looked  :-\

It's attimes like this that the 1911 census would come in handy!

I've got my growing list of searches for the 1911!

Also the possibility that Lydia could have been Frederick's child from a previous marriage as well. Nothing showing for a first marriage for Edith Rose on her DC, may be something on Frederick's DC? None of which help at present in finding Lydia's birth.

There is only one SOLLY birth in Aberdeenshire showing on SP between 1905-45 and that was for a Robert Solly born in 1921 in St Nicholas, Aberdeen. I wonder if this could be theirs. If so, it would at least confirm marriage details and also potentially when the family had moved to Aberdeen. Also puts Lydia in place for her marriage in St Marchar a few years later.

Dawn, I think you need to be ordering a few certs. now to help you move forward  ::)
