Location of Chester Post Office c.1836

Does anyone have any ideas where I could look to find more information on the Post Office in Chester around the 1835/36 era or where it might have been located. 

I was wondering if there might be any street maps/photographs or such available for that period and if the location might be identifiable today.  No luck with my internet searches thus far.

One of my ancestors was listed as a letter carrier and "post boy" in the City of Chester and I would love to flesh out more details about this period in his life.  He lived on Crane St. so I assume his work place wouldn't be too far from there?
I'm hoping to visit Chester on my trip to England later this Fall and it would be fascinating to walk the routes he might have taken to work - if they still exist!

Hi Cilla,
The Post Office was in Post Office Place, Foregate Street, one of the main streets in Chester, but I don't know exactly where it was.
There are many photos of Foregate Street on Google Images.

The Post Office Yard was on the North side of Foregate Street between the City Wall and Frodsham Street.
If you go to http://uk8.multimap.com/ and enter the post code CH1 1HH it shows the location.

The Post Office later moved to St. John Street where it is today.

Thank you so much for this Stan. Exactly the info I was hoping for!  And what a great photo of Chester!  I can't wait to see the City for myself.   Just discovered my ancestor's family also lived on Foregate St at one time so the pieces are all falling into place.
