TYNDERMYN?
« on: Monday 29 September 08 13:38 BST (UK) »
I wonder whether anybody can help with identifying the location of Tyndermyn Glamorgan?

I am researching a Morgan Williams but cannot get back before 1881 at the moment. On the 1881 Census [RG11/5252] Morgan Williams was living in the parish of Trevethin, Monmouthshire - a Blacksmith aged 63 yrs and said to have been born in Glamorgan, Tyndermyn.

I can't seem to find a place/parish called Tyndermyn in Glamorgan and living 250 miles away have no local knowledge of the area.

Does anybody have any ideas - a mis-spelling perhaps - as a birthplace would help me look at earlier Census records.

Many thanks

Ian

Have you got a scan of the Census?

You've got a Tynywaun, Tynymynnyd (nr Brithdir), and probably countless others - I'm sure someone more knowledgable will get it in one go  ;D

There's mention of a Ty Derwen in Llangynwyd, near Maesteg / Bridgend:

To all

many thanks for your help. I've just come across a Morgan Williams b1818 pauper living in Griffithtown, Mon on 1891 census - born at Llangn, Glamorgan.

think it must be the same person and presumably Llangn could an abbreviation for Llangynwyd. Can't imagine there is a Llangn! - but wouldn't be surprised if somebody finds one!

I'll look backwards now!

regards

Ian
