Lily Myrtle Mabel SOUTHEE - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 29 September 08 04:25 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to find out what happened to Lily Myrtle Mabel SOUTHEE (possibly born 1900 in Wellington, New Zealand).

Her parents, John Alfred Southee (b 1876, Mangaroa, Upper Hutt; d 1952, Brisbane, Queensland, Aus) and Matilda Ann SIMPSON (b 1872, Dundee, SCT; d 1952, Auckland, New Zealand) divorced.

Both John and Matilda remarried: John to Sarah SOUTHEE (his first cousin), and Matilda to George Southee (John Southee's uncle).

John and his second wife, Sarah, emigrated to Australia. His daughter, Lily, stayed behind with her mother, Matilda. All trace has been lost of Lily. Does anyone out there know what happened to her?

Many thanks
Rachel

Hi Rachel

Right or wrong, just noticed this website:
http://jo.warby.markingtime.bigpondhosting.com/p241.htm
and this one too
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/l/e/m/Tracy-P-Lemke/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-Index.html

Which has Lillas Ann SOUTHEE b 1900 as  dau Alfred John SOUTHEE & Matilda Ann SIMPSON.

They also  have Lily Myrtle SOUTHEE b 1889 as a sister of the above Alfred John....?

Cheers

Hi Ambly

Thanks, and yes, I've come across Jo's wonderful website before  :)
Lilias Ann Southee could be the daughter of Matilda's second marriage to George Southee. She isn't mentioned on John Alfred Southee's death certificate, whereas Lily Myrtle Mabel Southee is.
Lilias also died in Kaeo, Northland - the same place that Matilda is buried.

Many thanks
Rachel

mentioned on his death cert ?

Can see on the marriage CD, that they slightly altered their names John Albert as just Albert and Matilda married under her maiden name for the second marriage.

Hello
Mk2_Zephyr

Whereabouts has the name SOUTHEE been recently mentioned on this board? I've done a scan and could find nothing. On Australian death certificates the children's names are mentioned, and according to a relative who is also seeking Lily Myrtle Mabel, Lily's name is mentioned as being a child from Alfred John's first marriage to Matilda Simpson.

Regards
Rachel

Perhaps Lilias and Lily were mixed up - being a death certificate, the main source of information (ie. John) isn't around to verify... but I had to ask on the off-chance that somebody knew something.
What Aussie site?
Yes, Alfred John and Matilda married their second spouses in 1913
