Christening look-up please
« on: Sunday 28 September 08 19:31 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am very keen to look-up the christening of Daniel Vair Wilson - he was born 21 April 1809 in Lanark and was christened there on 16 May 1809. I believe his parents were James Wilson and Mary Gibson, however I know nothing about them which is why I would like to look-up the record and see what it says. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.

Best Wishes

Stew

Hi Stew
I have had a look on Family search I.G.I for you hoping i might find a church so you can hopfully find the record but there is no one at all with  that surname. The I.G.I are records of pre 1837 Marriages & Christening taken from registers.

Hi Celia,

I know the church to be Lanark parish itself. A family member found the reference by looking at an index, however I'm unable to go to Glasgow archives myself to look it up. I was aware that it was not on the IGI.

Thanks,
Stew

Daniel's christening record (the original) is available to view online at ScotlandsPeople. It is indexed under the christening date and does not include the middle name of Vair. The parents listed are as you note. Pre-1855 records rarely include lots of detailed information; at most, you will get the father's occupation, the parents' parish and perhaps some family members as witnesses to the baptism.

Only other likely child I see to this couple is a Helen Wilson, b. 1804 in Dumbarton.

Hope this helps,
hume24 :)
