Kiri

This is the most obvious birth entry for him:

ROBERT ROBSON DONALD Born on 18 JUN 1860 in Cavers, Roxburgh
Parents JAMES DONALD and ELIZABETH ROBSON

But the names are the other way round   ???

This looks like his entry in 1861 in Denholm, everyone showing as born in Denholm apart from James Snr.:

James Donald 40, agr. lab., b. Ireland
Elizabeth Donald 37
Helen Donald 7
Barbara Donald 5
Janet Donald 3
Robert Donald 9 Months
Cecil Messer 10, step daughter

Address: No specific address showing on the index, just Cavers, Rox.

Barbara daughter above is showing as born in 1855. If it turns out to be the right family, worthwhile looking at this cert. 1855 and the first year of official registration in Scotland and the certificates included a wealth of additional info. For example, it will include parents' marriage details and for James should also include where in Ireland he was from.

Ah...1881 and we have two Roberts  :-\

Robert Donnell with parents James and Elizabeth, from the last post, living in Wilton - occupation a Woollen Mill Worker. We also have a Robert Robson b. 1858, in Cavers lodging in Hawick - occupation a mason.

Taking it back to 1861, we still have the first family of Donald and then a Robert Robson born Cavers:

Isabella Robson 64, Formerly Blacksmith's Wife , b England
Helen Robson 24, b. Cavers
Helen Miller 5, granddaughter, b. cavers
Robert Robson 2, grandson, b. Cavers

Address: Cavers Rox.

This family headed up by a Thomas, blacksmith, show in Denholm from 1841.

Checking IGI (batch code C117851 for Cavers) possible that this Robert is the illegitimate child of a Christina Robson (birth showing for a Robert Robson to this mother on 29 AUG 1858 Cavers).

Kiri, don't know what to make of all this  :P  The most obvious Robert has parents with the right first names but surnames the other way round?!

The other Robert with the right surname of Robson doesn't have the right parents names, in fact may also be illegitimate.

Monica  :)

Hi, I saw this post and would strongly suggest that you look at my post for the Nicholson family, Hawick. as you will see we appear to be researching the same family!!!!
I also have my family tree on rootsweb, so you will see what information I have found by just searching the names you have.
I have got birth certs from scotlandspeople if you are intrested. I have Robert Robson Donald also his sister Janet Robson Donald (who was my gg grandmother). I could not get one for Barbara 1855.
I hope this helps
