I sent you a link to what I think is him in 1881:
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=uki1881&indiv=try&h=11867453

If you can't open above link then this should work
http://www.rootschat.com/links/04ex/

Can't see him in 1891 and I don't think he was born in 1871  :-\

Hi Iddon,

I've just found your posting from last year regarding Joseph Willocks. He married Catherine McCann, the sister of my gt-grandfather, Hugh McCann, at St Walburge's, Preston, on 24 Sept 1898. On the marriage certificate his father is stated to be John Willocks, stonemason's labourer. I've only just started looking for Joseph's family but I've not had much luck so far. Have you acquired any further info since last year?

Kath

Parents of Joseph Willocks as transcribed from birth certificate. Joseph was born in April 1872 and his birth was reigstered in June 1872

Father: John, Brickmaker
Mother: Elizabeth, nee Cusick

Lancs BMD Record office had some difficulty locating the certificate as it had been mis-transcribed as "Willucks". From the information we hace on this family it is evident that their surnames were subject to a number of variations Cusick has been previously transcribed as Cusic.

Any suggestions where a marriage for John and Elizabeth can be retrieved?

What was the address on the cert?

I can see one John/Elizabeth Willocks couple in Preston in 1871, but John's occupation is different, and the mother (in law?)'s name is not what we were expecting. They're at 5 Mount Pleasant.
(Happy to post details if the address is the same RG10/4206 61 32)

Just seen your posting Tati, found them 1871 census yesterday and likewise thought it a little odd that the mother-in-law name now shown as Cross and not Cusic (or Cusick) as marriage register indicated, presumably she must have re-married. The information from the census also seems to concur with the fact that living family had advised that they ha their origins in County Durham and Ireland/

Other than daughter Elizabeth I caanot find any of them in 1881 census. Curious to establish which relative Elizabeth Carroll belongs to.

There are possible deaths for the parents between 1871 and 1881.

Maybe Ann Cross was Joseph's remarried mother after all, because the person Joseph is with in 1881 is an Elizabeth Cusic.

I haven't been able to find Miss Carroll in 1861 either  :(

Could you post the possible death dates of the parents? Are they registered in Preston?

Elizabeths in Preston

Elizabeth Wilcock age 36
Mar 1873 Preston 8e 421

Elizabeth Wilcock age 42
Sep 1879 Preston 8e 340

There's no John in Preston but a few others elsewhere in Lancashire. Doesn't help that their name is spelt in so many different ways! I see Christinas birth was registered as Christiana Willox.

You didn't say whether Joseph's birth was registered in Mount Pleasant?
