Hi Lucy 2  The Computer asked me if I wanted to look at a PM I pushed Ok and only the open site came up and I can't get it to show me your message.  Is there someway I can get it to show it to me.  Maybe I can learn how to send them and then you get my email address and send me the info.  It's done it to me the lost two PM messages I was sent.  One later turned  up on other site, fortunately wasn't anything that shouldn't be seen by anyone.  BELLBIRD

I have found some photos in my Mothers photo album which include photos labelled Basil and Fred, Eric and Edie, Fred, Basil Edie and Eric, on same page is Ray who is standing with Prize Cups he had won.  It would appear that Basil is the father of Fred, Eric could either be a brother or son of Fred and Ray a son of either Fred or Eric.  I am very keen to see where they fit in with my mother's family as they are referred to as cousins  Her parents were Samuel and Elizabeth Cranch who originally lived and had their 8 children in the Carterton area from where a number of the children married and the others married from Cambridge area where their parents moved.  There must have been a close relationship between the families for photos to be in the family album and for studio photos to be sent to Elizabeth Cranch and family. One studio photo is of a young Fred Cranch with his wife and two boys, their names confuse me a bit as the toddler is Basil and the baby old enough to be sitting is  Eric.   A big question for me who was Basil's father.  I have come across a William Cranch who married a Miss Goldsworthy and had a daughter Maria at Thames dated 1868, they are also a puzzle.  It appears from an English Chatroom that Maria is connected to someone in France who has not responded to the email my English connection sent, but who had expressed interest in Maria's parents names.   Any help would be much appreciated.  BELLBIRD

Morning Isaac James   Great to get your message,  I knew of your father, through some photos in an album of Mum's.  He appeared to be much younger than Basil and Eric hence I had a puzzle for awhile until I found through a letter drop I made to some Cranch Families in the White Pages Ivan  who said Ray was Fred Cranch's boy and brother to Eric and Basil. which solved the problem for me.  He said was in contact with Ray.  It is strange for me regardless of the big age gap Ray is of my generation, his father being my Grandfather's nephew.  Ivan  is the son of Samuel Gill who landed in NZ in 1907. I don't have any info on your family apart from small snap shots of Fred with Edie and Basil and Eric, two other of Ray with Cups.  Fred sent my grandmother and mother a studio photo of himself and and one of him, his wife and the two boys very young, well before Ray's arrival it would appear.  Being a rather late arrival in her family all Mum's brother and sisters were married by the time she was 11 she said and a number of her nieces and nephews were older than she was.  One story was of her and nephew Rusty travelling on the train together (school I think) "Rusty's gotta girl"  the boys teased, "Tain't me girl, its me Aunty " was the reply.  Thanks for the photo, what did your father get the medal for?  I have trouble sending emails of  photos it would appear, I send them to ............. from me but like the cat they keep coming back. I'd be pleased to receive family info. If you wish to exchange photos and other material maybe we will need to revert to snail mail.  A Personal Message might do the trick to exchange addresses.   BELLBIRD

Hi i'm Janice the 3rd older daughter of Ray. Dad was given the Medal for his involvement with Rugby league in New Zealand. The 3 boys were very good sportsmen Uncle Eric played Rugby & Sailed, while Uncle Basil was a very good softball player like Dad. He was 10 years younger than his brothers so was spoilt by them and Grandma.
So we 6 girls were bought up doing lots of sports. Dad has only just sold the family home in Mt Eden Auckland and moved with our wonderful stepmother into a village.
He still is very active in Rugby league and if you google his name there are lots of information on him.
They grew up down the road in Punga St Mt Eden Auckland.

isaacjames  Morning Janice  Your address didn't come through as this  an open site and the moderater removed it as you would be open to spam and other sorts of nasties.  Somewhere on the Chatroom site is instructions on sending a Private Message which I only I can see where as the site we are on now anyone can read it.  One advantage of this is other see what you're asking and jump in with help or suggestions.  There are many helpful people out there.  Iit is wonderful to meet someone who is the immediate generation but one from Fred Cranch and actually met the generation.  I met one or two of Mum's generation when I was little and one cousin who has since died, being old enough to be my parent.  Mum was like your    Ray born a number of years after the rest, by the time she was 11 they were all married.  She was taken from school she said to look after her mother who was diabetic.  She died in 1940 and Mum moved to Auckland for work.   Married Dad and was 40 when I arrived on the scene.  Alot of Mum's nephews and nieces were older than her.
One about her age on the train with her was teased "Rusty's got a girl"  "Tain't me girl it's me Aunty"  As you grew up in Mt Eden I guess you weren't too far from your Grandparents.  Kids at school I learned 2 or 3 years ago thought I was either adopted or living with my grandparents.  Which I guess made me different enough to be a candidate for some bullying.  I met that girl (lady) on the Trans Alpine Express and we got chatting and it all after we realised we went to the same school it all came out.  Work calls, so must run BELLBIRD
