Hi Kiri

This looks to be your gran's entry in the 1901 census with her family - everyone showing as born in Rathen except for Catherine's grandmother, Jessie:

John Todd 37, farmer
Mary Ann Todd 34
Maggie Todd 10
Jessie Todd 6
John Todd 4
Mary Ann Todd 2
Catherine Todd 1
Jessie Donald Todd    83, mother, b. Banffshire, Fordyce

Address: Kilbirnie, Rathen

It would be good if you said what info you already have on her family so that people can add to what you already have.

Monica  :)

Hi Kiri

John had a sister Jessie born 28 Jun 1861 in Rathen Aberdeen.

Basil married Jessie Donald 31 May 1860 in Longside Aberdeen. If you purchase the marriage certificate from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  this should show Basil and Jessie's parents names. 30 credits will cost you £6.00. and then 6 credits will purchase the certificate. Leaving you with enough credits to buy 4 more certificates!

By the way Basil Jessie and John were living At Kilbirnine Croft in 1881. Basil was born in Lonmay Aberdeen and Jessie was born in Portsoy Banff.

Best wishes
Jean

And the family shows by Jean in 1871:

Basel Tod 41, Farmer Of 23 Acres Employing One Labourer, b. Lonmay, Aberdeenshire
Jessie Tod 43, b. Fordyce, Banffshire
Jessie Tod 9, b. Rathern
John Tod    7, b. Rathern
Isabella Beaudin 20, boarder, b. Fordyce
Margret McBeth 13, servant, b. Aberdour

Address: Kilbirnie, Rathen

Always like seeing farmers, possibility they may have left a will, inventory or something...and Basil did  :):

Basil Todd, 27/11/1889 - farmer, Kilburnie, Cortes, parish of Rathen, d. 03/07/1889 at Kilburnie, intestate, father of John Todd -    Extract Inventory at Aberdeen Sheriff Court Inventories.  Refs: SC1/36/108
