Wilson of Ives Place Maidenhead
« on: Thursday 25 September 08 14:36 BST (UK) »
Old Squire Wilson died in 1829 at Ives Place. This Thomas Wilson is connected via his daughter to the Pococks.  I would like to find his parents. As I am pretty new to Berkshire research I would appreciate any hints.  I have his will so know his family but would like to find his forbears.  Any help appreciated.

I don't suppose this is any help and you probably have the Pocock history.  Found this on Google and I know there was a family of poor Pococks in Maidenhead.

Yes I was aware of the Pocock painting. This was the home of Thomas Wilson [where the town hall is now].  The William Innes Pocock's had money. In fact the poor Pocock's of Bristol ended up producing WG Grace!

Do you know if there was a local paper in the 1810s? Maybe I just need to read the local news to see if I can turn Wilson up.

I know there is The Maidenhead Advertiser but I think that was established around 1870/2.  So no help there.  I think your best be would be to contact Maidenhead Library  (funnily enough in St Ives Road and more or less opposite where the house was) who I have found very helpful in the past,

Hope this will help,
