I can access Western mail archives via the monmouthshire libraries website but you need to have a library card. It links to a british library site, but having gone to their site directly I cant see how you can access them that way.
Let me know if I can do a look up for you.

Thanks for that, some kind person did look up what I wanted from a library using there card and I tried to see if I could do the same from home.
So if it goes to the British Library perhaps I should try that way.
Regards.
Peter.

Hi all,

I'd like to know if it's likely that my Grandad's death in April 1920 would have been reported in a local newspaper.  He lived in Tredegar with his family.

He went missing and was found a couple of days later, drowned in a pond in Tredegar.  I have his death certificate, which shows the Coroner recorded an open verdict on the cause of death.  I have tried to locate the relevant Coroner's report, but I understand it is no longer available.

I don't know the Tredegar area myself and have no idea which newpspapers I should be looking for.  Does anyone know which, if any, local papers circulated that area in 1920 which might have carried the story?

Grateful for any advice.

Go to www.tredegar.co.uk Lots of information about Tredegar and the surrounding areas, also a genealogy board that might help you.

Thank you, Ozlady. :)

I' signed up to that website a long time ago, but my question there hasn't come up with the answer yet, so I thought I'd try my luck here.

Best wishes,

Emmy
