Dooley - Murrintown, Co. Wexford.
« on: Tuesday 23 September 08 21:33 BST (UK) »
I've only today started looking in to my Dooley ancestors.

I know that my great grandfather was born in Staplestown, Murrintown, and the following generation was born in Mullanour, Murrintown.

I haven't been out to Murrintown yet to see if I can look up any info.

I believe my great grandfather had 8 brothers.  My great grandfather fought in the Boer War and at least 3 of his brothers joined the British Army too.

I'm just looking for info or descendants of Dooley's from Murrintown.

Could you give us an idea of dates or any other details you already have please. Information available depends on whether before or after civil registration, etc.

I forgot to include the first names of the men - sorry.  My great grandfathers name was James.  My father is to get back to me with a date of birth for this fella.

I know that my great grandfathers brother Thomas was born in 1884.  There were also brothers Nicholas and Edward, but I don't have any more information.

I'm working on the dates of birth.  As I said, I only started researching this today, so I haven't been out to Murrintown yet to ask about records or to check out who's buried there.

I expect to hear from my father tomorrow with a date of birth from James.

If you are going to be able to check church records, graveyard, etc. wait until you get more details and then post them here. It's quite possible that you will find more details at the church than will be available online but there will be things like Griffith's Valuation (mid-1800s) for when you get more details.

I believe Patrick Dooley was someway related.  It was great to see this record.

Griffiths Valuation has given me 2 Dooley's in the area in 1853 - Peter Dooley, Forth Commons (Kildavin Civil Parish) and Patrick Dooley, Bargy Commons (Kilmannan Civil Parish).  As Staplestown is in Kildavin, I can only guess that Peter Dooley is the one to look at.

James Dooley was born in approx. 1873 and married a Margaret Reddy and briefly lived in Mayglass (haven't a date for their marriage yet).  I know that her father drove the horse and car for the poor house, but don't know where she was from.  There are no Reddy's in Mayglass in 1853.

I believe that my grandmother Sarah was born in 1907 in Mullanour and I know that her brother Peter was born in 1909/10 in Portlaw, County Waterford.  My great grandfather was a game keeper in Curraghmore at that time.

I've done a little more research.  My great great grandfather was James Dooley married to Catherine Slye (I don't have a date) but their children and their dates of birth are as follows:

Peter 07/01/1874
John 06/12/1875
James 02/06/1877
William 17/04/1879
Catherine 03/05/1881
Thomas 27/12/1882
Nicholas 03/07/1885
Edward 09/08/1887
Patrick 21/04/1888
Sarah Ellen 02/08/1890
Michael no dob for him but he was born in either 1891 or 92.

All were born in Forth Commons.

My great grandfather was James.  He is listed as single on the 1901 census.  He married Margaret Reddy and they had 4 children:

Mary Kate (Kathleen)  1903/1904
Margaret (Nellie)  1905
Sarah 1907
Peter 1909/1910

I think the girls were born in Drinagh and Peter was born in Portlaw in Waterford.

Can anyone help me find out more?
