Hi Wellspring - thanks for PM. Indeed I think we're getting somewhere now, and I'm very relieved it was the correct birth reference!  :D

So Sidney Whitham's parents were Harry and Jane Ann nee Taylor.

There's only one match for the marriage on FreeBMD
September quarter 1877 1887
Middlesbrough registration district 9d 772
Harry Whitham - Jane Ann Taylor

Here they are in 1891 (and the fact Jane was born in Middlesbrough explains that they were married there)

Well, I now remember doing this before and trying to prove that the little Allen shown in 1871 is in fact Harry - now knowing his father's name, I have no doubt anymore (brother Frank ties in as well)

Philip H Whitham, head, 47, File Cutter, b. Yorkshire Ecclesfield
Susanna, wife, 47, b. do.

Hi there, I was just browsing the Whitham name whe I came across your post. It seems you are researching my family. I am a direct descendant of Phillip and Susanna comind down through his son Charles. Allen/Harry has always baffled me and what really interests me is the mention of Emily. Could this be my aunt?
