Welcome to RootsChat Wellspring  :)

Is the information you have from Sidney's birth certificate? If so, the certificate should also give Sidney's mother's name.

If we find the reference for Sidney's parents' marriage and you purchase the certificate, it should tell us more about both of them - ie ages and fathers' names, which in turn should (hopefully) allow us to find them in the 1901 census.

 :)

Hi Wellsprung

Welcome.  There is only one (out of 39 matches) Harry Whitham on the 1901 census in Notts:

Notts / North Wheatley / aged 3

I can't view the image from work, but someone else might be able to.  It would be unwise to assume that this is your relative without some form of corroberation.

David

Ah, OK. So are you presuming that the address Sidney married from was his father's address?

Anyway - how old was Sidney in 1928? Any idea how old his brother Harry was?
With a little luck, they will appear on the 1901 census ...

(Hi Williamscdr, long time no see ;))

Sidney was 26 years old in 1928. I have no idea how old Harry was but think he was younger.

Sidney was 26 years old in 1928.
How very uncooperative of him  :P

I'm afraid this means you'll have to first get hold of his birth certificate to discover his mother's name

I can't see a birth in Nottinghamshire for him but I do see
Sidney Whitham
December quarter 1902
Rotherham registration district
Volume 9c page 804

(found here : http://www.freebmd.org.uk/)

Birth registrations in the December quarter can cover births between mid-August and December. Does anyone remember Sidney's birthday?
