« on: Sunday 30 January 05 08:32 GMT (UK) »
I am posting this request on behalf of a distant relative of my husband.

Sarah BERRY bp 1825 Brightling dau of Isaac BERRY and Ann ..........

Is there any likely Isaac BERRY marriage in Sussex that would fit the above.

Many thanks

Hi Casalguidi,
There is only one marriage for an Isaac Berry in Sussex prior to 1825, and this is it, as you can see it's not to an ANN,

 From the Sussex Marriage Index:
Fernhurst, West Sussex,  Date:  2 May 1819:
Isaac BERRY
Sarah MADGWICK, wcop botp  (B)
Extra Information: Witness wit: Jn TERRY, Ann OLDER

wcop = with consent of parents
botp = both of this parish

Bit of a dissapointment  :(
Jane

Hi Jane

Many thanks for that.  These BERRYs were probably travellers so it could be that a marriage took place somewhere else if indeed at all.  Perhaps the mother wasn't really Ann.  Who knows ???  Every little helps.

You say that that was the only Isaac BERRY marriage prior to 1825.  Would it be too much to ask if there were any later ones that could possibly relate to him or relatives also named Isaac BERRY?

Thanks again

No problem Casalguidi,
These are the other two marriage's.  To me it would seem that Isaac who married in 1819, is the same Isaac below, marrying twice.
Looking at the distribution map for the name Berry on the marriage index, the name appears all over Sussex, West & East, but the biggest number are in FENHURST with 19 marriage's (right on the Hants border) & Brighton with 15.  They certainly moved about!  If you want anymore help, just let me know.

 From the Sussex Marriage Index:
Fernhurst, West Sussex,  Date: 25 Jan 1828:
 Isaac BERRY, widr
Emma CURTIS, sp wcop botp  (B)
Extra Information: Witness wit: Jas Madgwick My Etherington

 From the Sussex Marriage Index:
Fletching, East Sussex,  Date: 22 Jun 1829:
 Isaac BERRY, bach
 Naomi CLARK, sp botp  (B)

Hi Jane

Many thanks for these.  Yes, I would agree that the Fernhurst marriage looks like the Isaac previously married to Sarah MADGWICK.  There's something to investigate anyway.

It's very much appreciated.

Hi I saw your posting, and I am researching the Berry family from Fernhurst and surrounding areas, I was interested in knowing who your Isaacs parents were, I do have a couple in my tree but they are a little later than what you were looking for, but i do have gaps where there should be children but i havent found them.  Hope we can help each other.
