Lovely photos, thanks all of you.I will phone the office & see if there is a headstone.I'm afraid I just assumed there would be especially when they offered me a plan of the site.I hope you enjoyed your trip to the cemetery,I always enjoy looking through graveyards which seems odd to those who are n't genealogists! I used to take my children on trips to graveyards & they thought nothing odd in exploring .It was even better when they were old enough to read & could help find surnames for me!Now I've got a digital camera it's so much easier & faster than writing down the inscriptions by hand.
By the way,has that section been renumbered?

We managed to work out from the plans where D3 should have been, as some of the headstones had numbers on them.  I wondered if you had asked about whether there was a stone or not, but I'm surprised the office didn't tell you yea or nay when you got the plot number from them.
Yes thanks we had a good time looking for others that we might recognise, taking pics of unusual stones etc, then all had coffee afterwards  :)

Hi,I'm just off the phone to the cemetery office. They said they'd no way of knowing if there was a headstone or not.So it seems there is n't one for my ancestor. However, if anyone's looking for a grave they can put down a small marker to indicate where the plot is.I hope this information may prove useful to someone in the future!
Regards

I find that very unusual, and a bit annoying, another local authority, Redcar & Cleveland, can tell you if there's a headstone, or a vase, who bought the plot and their address, etc, etc.

It's also surprising that someone who was a captain and died as recently as 1902 shouldn't have a headstone.

Well, we'll know for future reference, sorry not to find what you were hoping for

Kind regards,
Barbara
