Dublin Metropolitan Police [Kavanagh Cullen]&(Kavanagh-Napier)
« on: Saturday 29 January 05 17:45 GMT (UK) »
Two of my Great Grand Uncles John and James Kavanagh were members of the Dublin Metropolitan Police and I would be grateful for any information I can obtain on them. They were born around the mid to late 1830's to mid 1840's. (Their sister Catherine Kavanagh my Great Grandmother was born 1843.) The following list of names may contain the names of my Family James Kavanagh Warrent Numbers 6788 and 7285 could well be one and John Kavanagh Warrent Numbers 5540 and 6356 could well be the other. Native Parishes are given as Carnew and Gorey County Wexford. Which would be correct as their home place Aughnamaulmeen would be central to each.

I am not sure as to what steps I should take from here to fine further information on my family members, and would welcome any information or assistance on this.

Thanks Kate

I actually have this book  “The Dublin Metropolitan Police”: A Complete Alphabetical List of Officers and Men, 1836-1925, Jim Herlihy, Four Courts Press, Dublin 2001 and have been able to identify my G.G.Uncles on the listings. But that is the some total of the information I have on James and John. Wondering whatever become of them and their families, maybe one-day I will get lucky.

Regards
John

Hello John,

I see you have the book on Metropolitan Police. Is the address Jim Herlighy, Fourt Courts Press, Dublin 2001? Also, other then a member's name, does it give any other info on the person? And could you tell me how much it is to order this book?  Thank you.

Hi

You are correct the book is by Jim Herlihy. The list covers all those 12,566 members of the DMP. The information concerning each member of the DMP is given in the following order: Surname, Christian name; DMP registered number, year of birth; native parish and county. Members who were killed on duty are identified also.

Book price I guess somewhere in the region of £45 - £50

Hope this helps, if you any other queries please ask
