Photo Mystery
« on: Tuesday 16 September 08 06:08 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone!! This picture was in the bottom of a shoe box at grandma's.  I have no idea who it is and my only clue is "gh Cottier" written on the back.  Can anyone date and possibly place this picture so I can narrow down who it might be??? He is my latest mystery :)

THANKS!!!!

Excellent news, Lily!
It's definitely a photo from WW1 - do you know how he came to be in your grandma's shoebox?  (well his photo anyway!)

my great grandpa was raised in IOM by his uncle and came to the US as a teenager, when his uncle died he was left all of his possessions and he kept them and later in life went back and labeled most of them, this one had been cropped and his writing was cut off so wasn't sure who it was, when he passed his widow kept the photos and they eventually ended up in a shoe box within a trunk of her linens which was stored in my grandmas basement until she recently passed as well, the trunk was given to me and I found the photos :)

the photo does say "gh Cottier" but the "gh" is half of the name Hugh, the Hu was cut off when the photo was cut!

thanks everyone!

Hi Lily

Now you know who he is, thought he'd better have a bit of a tidy up.
