"Ritchie's refers to the Ritchie family who owned the Glenury Royal distillery in Stonehaven from 1858 until 1938, a period when the distillery flourished before eventually closing in 1985 due to industry-wide problems. William Ritchie acquired the distillery after the founder, Captain Robert Barclay, died, and his descendants ran the distillery until its sale to a large conglomerate in 1938. Though Glenury Royal is now a "silent" or "ghost" distillery, some bottlings of its whisky occasionally appear on the market.
