Parents of James Brown

Please can anyone help?  I am trying to confirm the parents of James Brown born abt 1811 died 1851. I have him on 1851 census giving his age 40 and birth place Old Cumnock. The 1851 has him living with wife Ann nee Dalgliesh and children.  I can find his marriage to Ann in 1841 but no sign of a birth to confirm his parents. Grateful for any help ???

Hi Angie

Scottish naming pattern is not a precise science but can be a guide on possible g/parents' names. From the children showing on IGI for James and wife Ann, first born son in 1842 looks to have been called Andrew (submitted entry). Second son shows as Hugh Dalgliesh which I assume may be the names of Ann's father.

There is a birth showing which might be a possibility for James:

JAMES BROWN  Born on 17 AUG 1809/ Christening 03 SEP 1809 Old Cumnock
Parents:ANDREW BROWN and JANET BOYDE
