Me again......

From an early post:

Marriage Dec 1870
Woodstock 3a 1054
Harriett Hemmings - James Prior

Birth Jun 1867 Woodstock  3a 652
Mary Ann Hemmings

Trying to find out who the real father is of Mary Ann now.....

I have found a marriage for James Hemmings in Woodstock 1865 3a 1156, but no spouse given on Ancestry......

Any offers please..;)

As James Prior married Harriet Hemmings in 1870 I assumed that James Hemmings had died, but I can't find a death on Ancestry...

any offers....;)

Have found a James Hemmings (b 1846 son) and family on 1861:

Source Citation: Class: RG9; Piece: 902; Folio: 53; Page: 12

There is a daughter Harriet born 1846!...but the Harriet who married would not have been a Hemmings would she?

Also when Harriet gave birth to Mary Ann should would have been just 16 if the ages are correct from above post....

Morning  :)

Why not?  :) This Harriet looks very good to me ... If Harriet wasn't married when Mary A was born then Mary A's birth would be registered in the surname Hemmings.

The fact that Mary Ann was staying with the Priors as niece/granddaughter on later census suggests that James probably was the father, but I'm not sure if we can prove it if Mary Ann's birth certificate doesn't name a father.

Morning Tati. :)

Never thought of that... ;D....
Is it likely that an illegitimate child will have a father named on the birth certificate...

AND....the  marriage for James Hemmings in Woodstock 1865 3a 1156, but no spouse given on Ancestry......is this just likely to be Harriets brother?

Indeed, the father probably wouldn't show on the birth cert ...

For the record, James Hemmings married Sophia Gibbs in Dec 1865 (and she shows on FreeBMD/ancestry  ???)

Think I'll leave it to someone else - I don't have access to parish records etc :)

Sent off for a birth certificate for
Dorothy Mary Prior  1897  D  Woodstock  03a  62

Got a mail back saying "We have not produced a certificate as there is no trace of the above mentioned person at the reference you quoted."

Just tried the reference again and there is no one and I can't find her birth any more on BMD!

She was born 14/11/1897 in (I assume because my mum told me) Woodstock.

Anyone help.
