Gilmorton, Leics. Baptism/birth Parish Record Look up please
« on: Thursday 11 September 08 01:55 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am searching for a Gilmorton birth/baptism parish record for my Gt.x3 Grandfather, Henry PITT born c. 1778 or 1782.  I am trying to verify where he was born and his parentage.

From the IGI it notes his marriage to Grace Woodcock in 1806 in Gilmorton and, where it indicates his birth, it simply states he was born 'Of Gilmorton, Leicester', but no date.  His marriage details that someone found for me indicate he was 'Of this parish'.   ???   Unfortunately, the marriage details do not give the name of his father.  Henry Pitt was a farmer and Grazier in Gilmorton at the time of his marriage to Grace in 1806.

Henry moved to Pembridge, Herefordshire around 1813 and then Upton upon Severn, Worcestershire around 1828.

Would anyone have access to parish records for Gilmorton and kindly do a look-up to ascertain if he was born there around 1778 (year derived from age at marriage) or 1782 (year derived from age at death)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  It would be great to find out who his parents were and solve this mystery.

Thank you  ;D,

Jilly

Jilly,

Sorry I can't help you with your Gilmorton Pitt, but I would like your help if poss. My Pitts were a huge family in Upton throughout the 1800s. My Thomas Pitt was born in Upton 1806.  Thomas's father was also a Thomas who married Ann, a Herefordshire girl.
So when your Pitt pitched up in Upton, there were numerous Pitts there already.

Can you spot any link?

Many thanks

Neil
