PANTON Marriage Hambleden ~1837
« on: Tuesday 09 September 08 02:50 BST (UK) »
I am looking for my great-uncle's wife's parents.
The wife's father was Andrew PANTON, born 1813 (in Oxfordshire).
Her mother's name was Eleanor, (Ellen in the 1841 census, Elenor in the 1861 census). Eleanor was born in 1816 in Hambleden Buckinghamshire (consistent in all censuses), I assume at St Mary's.  I don't know her maiden name.  Maybe there is only one Eleanor baptism in 1815-1816.

Eleanor and Andrew were married by the 1841 census.  I cannot find any information using FreeBMD, so perhaps their wedding was around 1836-1837.  Surely it could not have been earlier than 1834 if Eleanor was born in 1816.

Therefore I am also looking for their wedding, I assume in Buckinghamshire, maybe at Hambleden St Mary's, in the 1834-1841 period, and I hope to be able to get her mother's maiden name from the wedding information, and then maybe Eleanor's parents' names from the baptism around 1816.

Thank you.

Hi Charles,

I can't see Andrew and Eleanor's marriage in Hambleden 1837 or before.

As for Eleanor's baptism around 1815/16, these are the only possibles:

born Oct 28, baptised Nov 26 1816 Eleanor d/o John & Sarah AYRES, labourer.

born 13 Aug, baptised 21 Sep 1817 Eleanor d/o James & Martha CLEMENTS, labourer.

I checked 1810-20 and there is also:

born Apr 8, baptised May 2 1813 Eleanor d/o John & Mary SADLER, labourer.

Up to 1837, there are no burials or marriages in Hambleden for any of the above 3 Eleanors.

So, if she gave the correct info on the censuses, she should be one of the above- perhaps you could track the others to see if they married other people?

Ta Da!!

On FreeBMD:

Sep Q 1840 Wycombe 6 581

3 names on page, 2 of which are ELEANOR AYRES & ANDREW PAUTON.

I love it when a plan comes together!  ;D
