Hi

Just thought I'd mention that I have 2 brothers whose 1775 and 1777 baptisms records show the father's name, followed by &, then....nothing!  Both entries are incomplete, no mother's name after the '&' , no childs name, nada.  We have, as a familly, assigned the names of these brothers from later documentation, but I've always wondered why both entries are identically incomplete.  Both boys lived to marry and have children of their own, so the only thing I'd suggest is that you look out for follow-on documentation.

Witness is William Shewan ..Mains
I have often come across baptism records which have only a space & no name recorded. Auchterellon is a farm (now on the outskirts of the town of Ellon.)Do you think the witnesses may be relatives?

Hello everyone!

Thanks for your help,

Lass, thanks for the info, I'm for sure going to try to find other documentation, but in the beginning of the 1700's there weren't many documentation on a person, only birth, mariage and death, mariage certs doesn't show the parents or age, and death I don't know where to find them...

Flst, I don't know if the witnesses are relatives, sometimes they are, but they could also be neighbours, family friends, as far I know, I don't know any Shewan in the Udny family, I'll have to search further for that.

Caroclay, that it's interesting it could finally be that after all, I'm going to look for an other Udny born a little after that, to see.

Actually, does anyone knows where I could find death records in Aberdeenshire for that time ?

Nick.

I see you have had posts on this Udny family before.Perhaps you should link them? I "googled" "Udny of Udny" & found several sites which show the line of the Udny's .Your ancestors were mentioned.

Hello,

yes, I know, I assume one of my ancestor is Robert Udny of Auchterellon son of John Udny of Udny & Isobel Fraser.

But I don't through which one of his children I'm descendant of, the Robert Udny of Auchterellon in the brith cert., that I've put in this topic, should be the same Robert Udny son of John & Isobel Udny, and the Udny with no name should be one of his child, but that's why I don't know if it is my James Udny, because I only need to prove that the Udny with no name is my James Udny.

James Udny married Jean Shand, both are my ancestors.
I'm almost sure that James's father is called Robert, because of the Scottish name convention, that my ancestors seemed to use.

But I can't find a James Udny son of a Robert that could fit my James.

Nick.
