Hi all,

I am trying to find a baptism record for my great grandfather Walter James Horne Edwards. He was born at Sharstead Hall, Willesden, Middlesex on 21st December 1880 to parents John James Horne Edwards and Elizabeth Cooke.

I think that the baptism may have taken place in Christ Church, Brondesbury, Willesden.

I have been looking for some time now but never been able to find anything.

Checked the register from 1880-1885 but he's not there.

Thank you, Dawn, for taking the trouble to check.

Hello Stephen, my Great Great Grandfather was working as a gardener at Sharstead Hall on the 1881 census and I was wondering if you know if the building is still there, or anything about it?
Thanks and regards
Sandra

Hi Sandra

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

According to his profile, Stephen hasn't been online here for quite a while and may not be able to help further as he doesn't live in the area you mention.

There is an obscure reference to Sharstead here

http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=22609

Donnington Road mentioned in the artice and Harlesden Road written on the census a few pages before, still exist but the area has been completely rebuilt over the years. Have a look at google maps and when you get to Donnington Road NW10 have a look at the satellite version

Looking at the rest of the census pages I would suggest that all the properties were larger than average houses, maybe a reason for a religious order being in one.

Stephen, if you haven't changed your email address and you get a notification that we have posted, since your original request, the majority of Anglican Parish baptisms held by the London Metropolitan Archives have been transcribed an put on Ancestry. There still isn't a baptism anywhere for Walter James Horne Edwards.

It looks like Sandra'a gg-grandfather and your great grandfather where both under the same roof on census night 1881.

Thanks very much for your reply Dawn, I had guessed that the area was probably completely different now, but thought it may be worth a try.
