thank you carol and liz :) i appreciate your help!!

im slowly piecing it together - mums seem to be easier to trace.

Ie my great grandmother Amelia Rosetta Stockley has been easier to trace right through to the Chappel thing we found - ie that the Chappels lived near the Stockleys and one ended up marrying a Chappel. :)

I am struggling so much with Jesse - I have at least some info on where he lived in 1911 - but i cant work out if the birth record for Bradford is him or not!!

Robert owned/ran a wool mill in Bradford area and he married a lady called Brenda- but they may not have married until the mid 1900's - im not 100% sure... all i know is that Robert & Brenda lived at 12 sandals Road, Baildon, Shipley around the 1950s as Mabel Jones ( my grandfathers sister) went to visit them!!!

Hi Carol!!

Didnt know you were working on this one too.

I too wondered about the name Brenda, I wonder if it WAS Robert (bro of Jesse) who married the Brenda, rather than someone in the next generation (as indeed the original post on this thread said) - you know as well as I how often famly stories get attached to the wrong person!

We will see. If Sonstar gets Jesse's marriage cert in 1907 it will give us a fathers name and occupation (hopefully!) and we can go from there.

I wonder if there were any more children of the Jesse/Amelia marriage? Married 1907, children 1912, 1914 and 1923. I just wondered if the elusive Robert could actually be of this generation and born 1907-1912.
But that would make him a brother of Sonstars grandad, who is still laive, so he should know!

Can Mabel Jones remember how old Robert and Brenda were when she visited them? If Robert was a sibling of Jesse they would be quite elderly by then. Jesse himself (if still alive) would be celebrating his golden wedding in 1957....

Brenda married the Robert Bentley who is Jesse bentelys brother - so 1850's onwards. Not sure when the marriage was yet!!

I will get the certificate ordered this avo!!

Jesse/Amelia had other children:

Alice Maude Bentley 1912 - 1999
born west derby, died wanganui NZ

Mabel Bentley 1908 - 1990
born west derby, died wanganui NZ

Mary F Bentley 1914 - 1922
born west derby, died west derby

William Slater Bentley 1910-1969
born west derby, died (not sure yet)

then there was grandad last:

george leslie bentley 1923-present
born west derby, currently living in Bedfordshire!!!

My grandad has specifically said Robert was Jesse's brother... and that Mabel went to visit him from NZ - so that could have been 1948 +

Hope this helps somewhat!!

Im not sure on their ages... all i know is grandad said

"Mabel went to visit them at 12 sandals road, baildon, shipley - and that he had owned a wool mill"

by owned - could mean worked in haha!!

It may have been that Mabel went to visit them around the 1950's - also Robert may have been younger than Jesse who knows.

Grandad also told me that Jesse Bentley died when he was out at war - around 1940's. :(

A Jesse Bentley age 61 died in Liverpool North in Dec 1942 ref 8b page 325.
That would tie in with the 1880 birth that I found for you yesterday.

Do you live anywhere near Bradford Sonia? If so you could go and check out the electoral rolls of Sandals Road to find out the full names of those living there in the 1950's.

If not then an email to Bradford library(google it-it's being very slow today) explaining to them that you aren't able to visit in person, may get you a look up.They can only say no,and you may be lucky enough and they say yes  ;)

If you don't ask you won't get  ;D ;D ;D

If you check out http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/cgi/marrind.cgi and enter Jesse Bentley and 1907 you will see he married Amelia at St. John The Divine,Fairfield.

You can also check births and deaths for all of Lancashire there too.

Also you can order certs through them online with a credit of debit card.
I am waiting for one from Cheshire at this very moment.
