Just came back in from the garden with a number of tasks done for my good lady wife. Weeds shifted, edges trimmed and have also started on the trees. However it's time for lunch and anyway it's too blooming hot out there at the moment. Our 3rd day of summer so far & don't want to talk about the unseasonable non summer to date. Rainy, windy, rainy, cloudy etc.
Anyway back to the task at hand and thanks for your wonderful import to date.
All I can say is a really TREE-MENDOUS effort by both of you.
Still haven't had time to digest all of your postings, but have seen enough to see that this could be on the right track at long last.
James Spoor died at Lyttelton (NR Christchurch) in 1915 and the headstone simply says his name and the dates 1826 - 1915 and death certificate just stated Suffolk as being the place of birth.
In a publication giving the names of English soldiers that were discharged here in NZ the notes for his name in the 65th Regt stated his place of birth as being Sefton in Suffolk. Of course no place in Suffolk by this name so hence the struggles of trying to sort out who is from where etc. The only other name given to me by my late father was that the name Alfred was supposed to be a Spoor/Spore family name.
James and his "common law wife" only had 3 children here in NZ - Lucy b 1884 - Sophia b 1887 (my grandmother named after her mother Sophia BROGAN) & Alfred James b 1893
I had best go now and have some lunch before attacking the garden again. Thanks again to everyone - You're a great bunch of people.
