Joe COLEBOURNE
« on: Friday 05 September 08 16:55 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on my paternal Great grandfather Joe Colebourne.

Joe was born in Tyldesley in Lancs in 1893, he was a football player who signed for Exeter in 1920. He never married my Great grandmother (Florence Taylor) but they had a child who was born in 1917 (my grandfather Robert Taylor)

Joe also played for Swindon Town for two seasons before ending his proffessional career back at Exeter in 1924/25.

I believe he married a person called Baker (in exeter Mar 1921 5b 198) and after he finished playing he ran a pub in Exeter.

Any info much appreciated

Welcome to RootsChat MT66  :)

I can see the family in the 1901 census - would you like the details?

I'm having trouble identifying John earlier for now (can only see a John Cockburn).

This is the only marriage I see showing on Lancashire BMD

1890
John COLEBURN - Martha WARD, Wigan, Register Office or Registrar Attended

(there is a Martha Ward born ca. 1861 on earlier censuses, but I can't see a birth registration for Melinda as either Ward or Coleburn  :P)

Edit: But Edmund seems to have been registered as Colburn in 1885 so maybe not the right marriage after all  :(
