Its such a shame because I have managed to trace the payton family right back to the longmores and Coleys who lived in the Caves above the Canals nr Dudley .

son William Jones b 1838 Bromley later moved north to wakefield and lived at a village called Bottomboat.

Hi Jeanette
Please be my guest . I havent a clue where the photo was taken . It is a well known photo in my family . Sonia Rolte's first husband George Smith  was My Grans nephew . These were his grandparents and Aunts and Uncle . She used this photo in her book 'A Canal People' .
There are a few of their descendants on here .
I have a 1911 census of them on these boats  too but the writing is unclear as to where they are .

myself & pam are going to braunston boat festival again this year to meet up with some of my family members.
how about a roots chat meet for all canal linked men & women (first at the bar buys a round ha ha)

Hi Canal babe

I am not sure if they are related . The guy on the photo is Thomas Smith 1858-c1937  . I know he was born in Penkridge though but I have his parents as James Smith 1881 and Hannah Hanley 1830.

His siblings are George Smith 1853 and Hannah 1854 and Soloman 1856 .

One of his sons is called George Henry Smith ( My nans Brother )  Married Hannah Statham boatfamily Here is a photo of him and his son George in the background . Also attached is his Grandson George Smith who was Sonia Roltes 1st husband . Hes my dads cousin and is amazingly still alive and sprightly . Any help with records is always appreciated .
They other side of my family are the Paytons . Mt nan Sarah Smith Married John Payton  Boatman whos little sister Elizabeth married into the Price family Edward price . Boatman .
The Paytons married into the Morris family of Boatmen who in turn married into the Longmore and the Coley family also boatmen . Its never ending a huge family
Hope I haven t nattered too much .
