                       I have Whitehouse boatman, and also a link to Stourport with Hall (early 1800's) .
                       Two Hall sisters married Hodgetts brothers who also were boatmen.

                       What whitehouse names do you have.

apr. 29th 1872
William Wright,of age, Boatman,Toll End Father was William Wright Boatman
Matilda Whitehouse, 20, spinster,Toll End, Father John Whitehouse Furnaceman

Hi Everyone,

My direct line is Moore, who were boatmen.  My Gt. Grandfather, George Moore, born 1851 at Spon Lane, West Bromwich, lived mainly in Tipton, although he is shown on the 1901 census as living in B'ham, working for Fellows, Moreton & Co.  I've no information regarding names of boats he worked on, or what happened to him after 1901.  No trace to date on the 1911 census. 

The following may be of interest to anyone with Nixon boatmen in their family.  I've just discovered that Annie Louisa Moore married John Nixon on the 2/4/1893 at St. Gabriels Church, Deritend, B'ham.  John was a boatman, as was his father Wiliam Nixon.  The 1911 census shows that John Nixon, aged 40, was born on a boat at Toll End, West Bromwich.

Hello Kerry,

One branch of my family (Williams) were boat people and they lived and worked on canal barges with their families from 1860 - 1900.

 My earliest info is that of my Gt Grandfather  Enoch & his wife Ann from about 1865 onwards. My Grandad, William Williams was born in 1876 in Wembury, Nantwich.

Records show that their main route was between Trevor, near Llangollen, North Wales, to Wolverhampton and the Midlands, via Nantwich in Cheshire, transporting stone and lime.

I have already posted a request in the Common Room for ' Photo's of Boat People, 1860 - 1900 era'   

In addition, I have posted a request on the Cheshire board for info on a Geoge Williams & Sarah Lloyd who were Boat People in Chester, in the hope I may be able to trace relatives.

I 've been guided to your post by another Rootchatter and I really wish I'd seen it earlier because I could probably have put both requests together on your post.

Ah well, hope someone may be able to help.
