Hi starfishza,

Welcome to Rootschat!

There are passenger lists available on www.ancestorsonboard.com ; the basic search is free then it is pay to view.  There is one possible, a William Lambert with a birth year of 1897 (this could be a badly written 2?), who sailed from Liverpool to the Cape in 1926.

This looks like the marriage of his parents:

George James Lambert    SepQ 1888  West Ham 4a  53  (Found on FreeBMD)

Possible bride:  Ellen Randle

A copy of the certificate should give the name and occupation of both fathers which should help you find them in the earlier censuses.

Copy certificates can be ordered on line at www.gro.gov.uk and take about 1 week to arrive.  Cost in UK is £7.

Thank you!  I'll take a peak at the Passenger List.  And you are spot on... His parents were married in 1888.

How does one find any information in the 1700's?

Usually parish records for baptisms, marriages and burials.

Wills can be a source of information or confirmation!

Hi there

Thanks so much for the information!  This proves now that he did not return to England to his family.  In a way it is so sad...  It also proves that he never remarried after separating from my grandmother.  He also died pretty young.. much like my father.

Blessings

Lisa
