I remember my mother talking about a place called Avoca

Avoca was the village they used for the TV series Ballykissangel.

That's interesting. You are right just checked it on Wikipedia. My mother would not have got the Avoca link from Ballykissangel as she died in 1974 and the series was not broadcast until 1996
