Couldn't help myself, I spoke to the lady concerned and it is indeed the right person She sounds lovely. Quite high numbers for an address. I did look in the phone book for the Retirement Village, it's right next door to her address. It could possibly be connected still, with units having individual postal addresses, maybe?

Hi Bren and all,

Thank You for all  your help. You have solved a 70 year old mystery in a couple of days and put me back in contact with probably the last of my grandfathers cousins.
I am in UK so it was really tricky to find info in NZ. All I had were postcards and letters dated 1920s from Northcote beach, and somewhere called Gardner's sidings and vague stories from now deceased relatives.

I am tickled pink - you get so used to dead ends and being too late to speak to people.

Well guess I have to think what to write now....

I found Dorothy's birth in UK BMD as  liverpool ,1922, making her 85ish which all ties in.

It alsmost seems surreal. Always regret never asking more from my grandad when he was alive. Maybe she can fill in some info for me now on the family mysteries!
