Hi gmg,

Try "Googling " for Jeff Knaggs . Although his site is for Institutions on the 1901 Census, there are links to other sites dealing with Workhouse etc. during the earlier years of the 1800's

(tried pasting the link but Copywrite Laws prevail) I did manage to post it for the Rugby request on the Warwickshire Board , a few minutes ago!!

Andover Records

    * Hampshire Record Office, Sussex Street, Winchester SO23 8TH. Relatively few records survive — holdings include Guardians' minute books (1835-1930); Ledgers (1835-1930); Letter books (1846-1930); Papers relating to the workhouse scandal (1845-6); etc.

thanks to all. I was hoping to avoid the need to go to Winchester as I live a distance away. Have been on 'workhouses' site - an excellent site but no records for the dates I need - 1850-1860 ish.
thanks anyway
Jen

The Hampshire Record Office catalogue lists Andover Union records under reference PL3/4, including minute books 1835-1930, parochial ledgers 1855-1927, settlement examination papers.

The full catalogue entry can be found by searching for Andover Union at:
