1890+ censuses - Fossey - COMPLETED WITH GRATEFUL THANKS TO SHELLYESQ
« on: Friday 29 August 08 23:40 BST (UK) »
Could someone please do a check of censuses for me for a Jonah Fossey (born England c1851) & family.  I have found him on 1880 census (familysearch) living Salt Creek, Reno, Kansas, with wife Mary (born England 1851), daughters Mary aged 7 (born England 1872), Eliza aged 2 (born MI) and son Herbie aged 1 (born KS).  They arrived from England sometime between 1872 and c1878.  Any information regarding this family would be most helpful.

Also from IGI, daughter Mary Anne Elizabeth Fossey married a Robert Harvey Cross in 1894 in Yoder, Mcpherson, Kansas so, if possible, details of this family on 1900 census would also be much appreciated.

With very many thanks for any assistance on this.

Kind regards.

Zephyr

Hello Shelly

Thank you for all your trouble.  You have been magnificent!

I see that on the 1915 Kansas State census Jonah has a Hattie Fossey living with him.  I've no idea who she is.  Is there any chance you could check a previous census to see if there is any other information on her.  It may be that she is married to one of Jonah's younger brothers (he had two - Charles and William and I don't have wives for either at the moment).

Thank you also for the web sites.  I am looking forward to checking them all out - I can see I am going to be very busy well into the small hours!!!

Your help on this is very much appreciated - with many thanks again.

Best wishes.

Zephyr

No problem!

On the link to the information about Jonah, it says his 3rd wife was Hattie Blazdell.  I'll see if there's anything about her anywhere.

Haven't found any Blazdell items yet, but found this -
1920 US Census, Salt Creek, Reno, Kansas
Fossey, J., male, white, age 67, married, immigration date unknown, born England, parents born England, no occupation
Fossey, Hattie, wife, female, white, age 57, married, born Ohio, parents born Ohio, no occupation

1930 US Census, Salt Creek, Reno, Kansas
Fossey, Jonah, owns home, lives on a farm, male, white, age 78, age at first marriage - 21, born England, parents born England, immigrated 1872, naturalized, no occupation
wife Hattie, female, white, age 67, married, age at first marriage - 42, born Ohio, parents born Ohio, no occupation

Hello Shelly

It must be the late hour!!!  Never clicked that, at that age, Hattie could be Jonah's wife - presumed it was a relative come to stay with him and look after him in his old age!

I see on this further information that there is an immigration date for Jonus which will be a big help - so thank you again.

You have certainly come up trumps - many many thanks.
