Doe family from Wantage
« on: Friday 29 August 08 15:13 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I am trying to find the marriage of John and Ann Doe. John was born  in Wantage 1792 and Ann came from Birmingham.  Their first child was born in Bermondsey London 1821. (I have found another John Doe b1792 who settled in Norfolk)

I am unsure whether they married in Bermondsey or Berks, or even Birmingham! John's parents were Robert and Elizabeth, also from Wantage.

Any help much appreciated

Jean

I REALISE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN POSTED ON BERKSHIRE LOOK UPS!

Hi Jean,

Checked OFHS Wantage PRs and there is no marriage for John in Wantage.
              Have found this though. :)

Baptism
7 Sep 1792 John Doe son of Robert and Elizabeth

And i looked up the marriage of his parents for you incase you dont have it.

8 Mar 1791 Robert Doe, bach, otp, (X)
Elizabeth Puzey, sp, otp, (X)  by banns
                     Wits John Smith, John Huccup

John Huccup seems to be named in a lot of the marriages so is probably the minister.
Could find no burials for Robert or Elizabeth in Wantage but saying that i have not searched
  nearby villages.
           Hope this may help :)

                   Sue :)

Hi Sue

Thank you for your message. I do have the marriage of Robert and Elizabeth, also their dates of birth.

As there was no marriage for John in Wantage, that possibly narrows it down to Bermondsey or Birmingham.

Many thanks

Jean

Hi Jane

Yes I do have the family on census. In 1841, the family was living in Cardigan St Lambeth, but Eliza was working as a servant.

I cannot be sure she was the eldest child but cannot find trace of an older one.
