Illegitimate child of Mary Jane Andrews
« on: Friday 29 August 08 12:31 BST (UK) »
I am looking for the illegitimate child of Mary Jane Andrews. The child was born around 1904/5.  Mary Jane  lived in Co Down but it is thought that she was sent to Dublin to have the child. The child was possibly called Margaret. Mary Jane was a Presbyterian and she would have attended Rutland Square Presbyterian Church. It is thought that Mary Jane remained in Dublin and did not return to Co Down after the birth.

If Mary Jane stayed in Dublin and hadn't married by 1911 she should be listed in 1911 census:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Other than finding a birth registration fo her child you will probably not be able to get an exact birthdate or place. The father's name is not listed on the certificate for an illegitimate child and if the child was adopted her surname was likely changed. You could have a look on 1911 census for the child but as you aren't sure of name or birthdate you may not find her listed.

Many thanks for your help. I had a look for her in the 1911 census - no joy

Why should Mary Jane be in the Census ??? She could have been in Dublin or wherever for the greater part of 1911 but if she wasn't there on the exact date that the Census took place she won't appear in the Census. It doesn't cover people who left before it took place or arrived after it took place. Are there such things as registers of birthing houses?
