Hi Bellemore72 - Welcome to Roots Chat

I have some Pratts in one of my Fife families - probably the only one of your names I have seen before - I shall check for a butcher, Robert.

Will also check the census, unless someone else finds some detail sooner - I am not very fast at census checking

I'm not having much joy in 1871, but I found the Pratts in 1891 - a little confused transcription - probably worth looking at the image on Scotlandspeople (if you don't have it)

1891 South Bridge Cupar Fife Reg 420 ED 8
Robert Pratt 30  head Butcher Cupar Fife
Ellen Pratt 30  wife butcher Plymouth, England
Robt John Pratt 3  son Cupar Fife
Ellen Mortes Pratt 2  dau Fife Cupar
John Cummins 68  Father In Law Ireland, County Down (I think)
Margret Walles 58  head Factory worker Fife Largo
Jessie C McCubbin 56  head Tobacconist Fife ??

I would think the last 2 are in fact lodgers (or the next household), meanwhile is it correct that Ellen (nee Cummins) was born in England? and her father in Ireland? Is this why I can't find them in Scotland in 1871?

Trish

His daughter Maryann was born in Canada and apart for the son James the other children were born in various parts of Englnd, where he was posted? his younger son, James, was born in Corfu. John Cummins was my Gt.Gt grandfather and Eliza was my Gt grandmother.I am trying to find out more about eliza. Thanks for all your help
