Census entry 'Relief'
« on: Thursday 28 August 08 12:10 BST (UK) »
Hi

Am I right in thinking that an entry on 1871 census that says 'East Dereham Norfolk Relief' means the person was on Parish Relief? She was blind from birth but I always just assumed her family cared for her. She's with family on all the cesus'

If so, is there any way of finding any possible records without having to go to Norfolk Record Office?

Thanks for any help

i would assume, like you,  she was on Parish Relief.
Perhaps Norfolk RO will have records of Parish Relief and seeing as you have a date for your relative recieving the relief (i.e. the census date)  maybe they will do a look up on your behalf, at a cost of course
