Marriage Lookup Request 1828 St James, Paddington, London
« on: Thursday 28 August 08 09:47 BST (UK) »
I've found the christening records for the children of the marriage at St James, Paddington, spread over about 10 years, from Family Search, so the church was an important location for them.

However, I cannot find the marriage of George Bilney and Charlotte Coney in or around 1828. I'm pretty certain it would have also been at St James, Paddington but I can't be 100%.

I don't know where the records would be.

Could anyone help ?

Hi Paul,

No sorry, that came from Pallott's Index. The Parish Record may be easier to find though with the area narrowed down, maybe a LMA search will help?

Good Luck,

Frances :)

Hi Paul

Just a quickie....

According to Phillimores Atlas, the registers haven't been deposited for safe-keeping and may still be with the church. There is no record on the LMA catalogue

It's late now and I need to go but I'll check it out further tomorrow.

Just had another rummage around and the records are now at the London Metropolitan Archives according to the church website (recently deposited by the looks of things, Access 2 Archives doesn't show the bmd holdings only board of guardians documents)

I can check this out for you on a future visit to the LMA for you.

Hi Paul

The registers have recently been deposited at the LMA which is why my Phillimores Atlas is now incorrect.

And to add to that A******y have got the wrong date on the Pallot's Marriage Index!
Admittedly at quick glance it could be 1822, but when I couldn't find the marriage in 1822 I had another look, the image is a bit squiffy.

Took a bit of finding, please note the date.

From the marriage register of St John at Hampstead

George Bilney of the parish of Willesden in the county of Middlesex Bachelor
and Charlotte Coney spinster of this parish
were married in theis church by Licence
this 29th day of September in the year 1828
by me R H Simpson Curate
This marriage was solumnized between us
George Bilney (signed his name)
Charlotte Coney (signed her name)
in the presence of
Edmund Bradley (signed his name)
Maria Winifred Coney (signed her name)

Hope this helps.
