Humes Lane, Mallow

My mum, Catherine Beahan, was born in Humes Lane, Mallow in 1923. Does Humes Lane still exist - any information would be great. It may have been the home of her mother's family, the Flynn's as they were from Mallow, whilst her father was from Dublin

Hello there, I just wanted to let you know, even though this thread is quite old an perhaps you may no longer visit the site, that Humes lane does indeed still exist, I was born and raised there and my family - The Foley family- have lived there for many years! Some of the houses towards the bottom of the lane have been re built over the years, but a few of the homes, mine included, are still the original stone houses from around that time, which is fascinating

If there is anything you would like to know regarding Humes lane, then ask and I shall do my best to find answers for you from my family, my grandmother in particular would know a lot about the neighbours from a good few years back I hope this helps!

Hi there Babichuld. I have just seen your message about Hulmes lane.  Mum was born there in 1923. Her mother was Catherine Beahan nee Flynn who was from Mallow whose own father was Charles Flynn who was a railway porter. the family story was that mum was born 2 months premature on 1 Nov as my Gran went into early  labour due to some sort of commotion going on. a cousin believes this was due to a big fire. she thinks it was the a barracks burning down but I haven't been able to find out anything more .  it would be great to find out more about that. Mum as baptised n the same day at St Mary's church as she wasn't expected to live but she is still here 88 years later!

My mum was brought up in Dublin but I believe her grandparents stayed in Mallow.

Hello there, Babichuld. 

I'm interested in the Foley family in Mallow.  Ellen Foley married Maurice Griffin in Mallow in 1853.  They had a number of Griffin children: Maurice Gerald, William, Mary, Ann, Ellen (Nell), and Margaret Mary (Mollie).  They were living over on William O'Brien street in 1901 and 1911.  Ellen (Foley) Griffin died sometime between those dates.  They ended up living on Landscape Terrace (which I think is off William O'Brien street) in the 1920s and 1930s when my great-Aunt Genevieve visited from America around 1925 or so.  William Griffin worked for a business called "Cash & Co." in Cork city.  This Griffin/Foley family are cousins.  I would love to know if any of this sounds familiar to your Foley family in Mallow...
