Mary Jane McKay c1870 COMPLETED
« on: Sunday 24 August 08 17:54 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help...  Been at this for 2 years now.

I have Mary Jane Mackay, c1870 born in Edinburgh at Bells Wynd, (Which I believe is off the High Street).  Mary Jane had a daughter called Mary Jane born 1883, in the West Port.  She had another daughter called Bridget in 1886 in the grassmarket, Edinburgh.  Mary Jane Senior was a fish vendor and sold her fish around the High Street area of Edinburgh.  Apparently she took up with a man by the surname of McLaughlan.  Young Mary Jane was sent to the Nazareth House and Industrial School in Aberdeen.  She is listed on the census there.  Bridget was brought up as a McLaughlan, and she and Mary Jane Senior appear on the 1901 census as being in the Alloa area.  Mary Jane  junior got married in 1904 and stated on her marriage certificate that her mother was deceased.
I have hunted all over for marriage and death certificates for Mary Jane senior in the name McKay and all it variations and also McLaughlan to no avail.
Any suggestions or information would be great.

Regards,
Lynda
