Help please....Brick Wall
« on: Sunday 24 August 08 10:36 BST (UK) »
I have a relative who seems to have three places of birth and a different age for every census.  ???

In 1871 she was married to George Baker aged 23 and from Hilcott, Wiltshire
In 1881 she was widowed aged 41 and from Long Cross, Surrey
In 1891 she was married to George Field aged 44 and from not known
in 1901 still married to Mr Field age 50 and from Wales

In all the above census' she was living in Surrey in the Chertsey /Chobham area.

I have checked the original census apart from the 1881 and they all seem to have been transcribed correctly.

I know from her marriage certificate to George Field that her father was William Higgins but I have been unable to find her prior to 1871. Not knowing her age or place of birth is making this nigh on impossible.

Any ideas????

Thanks

No I am waiting for it to arrive but I am unsure if it is going to help much more than the one to George Field.

There is an Mary Higgins, 2, b Hilcott in 1851 (HO107/1844).
Her father is absent; mother is Elizabeth (who may be the one staying in Chertsey in 1861).

I can supply details if needed.

Sorry, I thought you said that you hadn't found her before 1871.

Possible marriage:
Dec 1848  Pewsey
William Higgins
Elizabeth Hams

Pewsey covers North Newnton which is where Elizabeth is living in 1851, and her birthplace in the 1861 census for Chertsey. There is a 14 year-old Elizabeth Hams in North Newnton in 1841.

What is it you want to know?
