Hunslet Hall
« on: Friday 22 August 08 17:47 BST (UK) »
Hi all, several questions here ;D

Was Hunslet Hall , Hunslet Ward, Leeds,  a road or was there a Hall? And is it the present day Hunslet Hall Road?

My gggdad, John Frostb. 1827,  was living there in 1841, working as a gardener at 14yrs.
H0107;1345;4;Hunslet Ward;Yorkshire;10;Folio 26; Page 10

In the census he appears to be living on his own, but even for those days it seems an exageration.
Would I be right in assuming that he could be wking as an apprentice for his neighbours; George Nichols b. 1830- Gardener ???
Hoping someone can help, Gillian

he is in the same household as th Nicholls family. The description of the District in the 1841 is "all that is between Hunslet hall Road and Jack Lane " so sound like the name of the road.

Lots of pictures of Hunslet Hall Road here http://www.leodis.net/  Most of them seem to be 1960s or 1920s but I didn't look at them all.

Yes it is still there see Streetmap or any other map site

;D Thank you all, especially Yonderpleasant.

I decided to look up George Nichols in the censuses and the IGI ....and his wife Sarah...and low and behold I find that she is a sister of John Frost, her birthdate and place fit in exactly with a space I had after their parents marriage.

Thank you....I would never have looked her up if you hadn't said that he was living with them. ;D ;D
Very, very, happy...Gillian

 ;D ;D ;D

You're not going to believe this BUT...Sarah Frost , the one I mentioned earlier is the first born child of my ggg gparents....the second born is Elizabeth named after her maternal gmother...so I be a thinking....maybe Sarah is named after her paternal gmother...and YES!!!
I have been looking for two years for these people....and Yonderpleasant helped me find them all in 20 minutes. ;D ;D
Please don't tell me that maybe it's not correct.....I am on cloud nine and I'm going to enjoy the ride..for a couple of days at least! (But I'm sure it's them!)
THANK YOU.

Hi, by chance I happened to Google Hunslet Hall. My ancestor is George Nichols (his daughter Emma marriaged John William Burton). Sarah has been a problem to me. You have managed to confirm her last name ( I suspected Frost ), but I am unable to trace her back to birth etc. Must be me if you have managed it, for some reason I am unable to find her in any indices as Sarah Frost born around 1812.
Help
Any chance you can point me in the right direction or give me some clues.

I have just started to try and follow some of wings to my tree.

Good Morning Gillian,
Thanks for the reply.  I do not wish to put you to too much trouble, but I have Sarah from 1841 and also John in the same year. I am, however, unable to find them prior to this - John being born about 1827, Sarah about 1810 give or take - clearly you have gone back beyond these dates. I am trying to trace our common line back from Sarah ( she appears to be from the Boroughbridge or there abouts - but yet ended up in Hunslet )

you may find reference to an Augusta Burton being in Sarah's household at some stage as a lodger..not true..she is Sarah's granddaughter.

I have just started work on the Nichols line Sarah's daughter married a Burton and it is from there the lines merge.
