William Emmott

Wanting to find out information for William Emmott who was a Captain in the Royal Horse Guards at Battle of Waterloo 1815, probably born in 1790s.  I believe there is a link with Tardebigge near Bromsgrove and that he may have married someone called Wilson.

I saw this query and although you probably have found the
answers you were looking for by now I thought I would mention
the following entries for registrations of deaths (both in the
district of Bromsgrove) shown on FreeBMD in case you hadn't
come across them.

William Emmott     Qtr to June 1865
Mary A.J. Emmott   Age 70    Qtr to Dec 1866

Your William Emmott (or Emmett on the Waterloo Roll) was indeed in the Royal Horse Guards but was a Corporal not a Captain (quite a difference!). He was however, commisioned in 1828 - a very rare feat - as Quartermaster of the Regiment. He was placed on the half-pay lists in 1831.

If you have any more info about him I'd be very interested to hear it.

This William Emmott is probably the father of Capt William Emmott of Tutnall near Bromsgrove. He was the long serving adjutant of the Worcestershire Yeomanry Cavalry and died in 1865. There is a portrait of him on horseback in the the Worcester Museum
