Bit of a pickle! ! EYEMOUTH
« on: Thursday 21 August 08 01:13 BST (UK) »
Hello there,
got myself in to bit of a pickle with my tree!
I have Robert Anderson Young b.1902 d ? on his birth certificate his father as down as John Young and his mother as Janet Anderson.
I also have his marriage certificate which shows his dad to be John and his mother to be JANE defrom (?cant read it) Young maiden name Anderson? which would tell me they were married.
The only marriage I can find between these two people are is in 1873 when John was 38 and Janet was 42 (on this marriage cert it says that they were both widowed before marriage. But if these were Roberts parents this would make them 67 and 71 when they had Robert, So I ruled these out.
I found john with who I believed this parents to be and his date of birth was down as 1855, so I did a death check and found one who died in 1917 age 67 in the right place, I purchased the certificate and I found that this Robert had married a Janet Cormack.
But two certificates clearly state that Robert Anderson Youngs mother was an Anderson and not a cormack. So I am really pickled  ??? ??? ???
I have searched for marriage between a JANE anderson and a John Young but this is Renfrew? I am just gettin more and more confused?

Being so close to the border perhaps they weren't married in Scotland so would not be on SP.

Have you looked for John and Janet on the census for each year.
Might give you more of a clue??  Place of their births?

Don't look for census on SP - too expensive.  You could add a separate post requesting a census look up.

I think this may be them on Ancestry living at Glasgow Ter, Eyemouth in 1901
Jane, 44, b.c 1857, Tranent Haddingtonsh
John, 42, b.c. 1859, Eyemouth, Berwickshire.
Their children : Anna M Young 16;  James Young 11 ; Jessie Young 22; Maggie Young 9; Mary A Young 18;  Robert Young 20
They are also in the 1891 census in  Armatage St, Eyemouth.
In 1871 there is a John Young, b.c. 1859 [which seems a bit young though], son of Mare Ann Young and Robert Young which would fit in with his children in later years. No sign of him being married at this point. I have to rush off but will have another look at this when I have more time.
