Good evening,

Many thanks for your message. Can I ask what your source is for the baptism ?Up to now I had only found a baptism in Kingston St. Michael which fitted, but which is some way from Brinkworth.

Your baptism sounds better, notably as Lucy & James's first son was called John and their first daughter Sarah, very probably named after James's parents.

Regards,

Nick

Hi

I have used a transcript of the Brinkworth baptisms which also show an entry (possibly for John's baptism) as follows:

Hathrill John 19 Feb 1769 s Benjamin & Judeth

The spelling is always a problem and this transcript shows lots of Hathrills and variants Hatharill, Hatheral, Hatheril, Hathriel, Hathril

I only have two children for James Hathrill & Lucy Heavens being

John Hathrill, born 1827, died 1855
James Hathrill, born 1828, died 1865

James married Eliza Hill, and I am researching their daughter Sarah born 16-05-1850

Good morning,

Thanks for your reply.

I too have John and James as children for James & Lucy.

If you are researching Sarah Jane b. 1850, I can help you, because I am in contact with a descendant who now lives in Australia. Let me know what you are looking for and I'll see what details I can supply.

Regards,

Nick

Good morning

Thanks for you reply.

Do you have any other children for James & Lucy as I only have these two.

I am researching Sarah J. b,1850 and I am one of the Australian descendants - 2 of Sarah's sons immigrated to Australia, ( I now live in the UK) and you are probably in contact with my cousin, who I am also in contact with.

I know most of the downline from Sarah and I have given this to my cousins in Aus. It is the ancestry I am trying to sort out, ie. prior to James & Lucy.

I will keep looking at the Brinkworth connection for now.

Did you follow up the posting from FamilyDigger:

James' Parents were:
James Hatherel
Hannah
He was christened in
24 MAY 1801   Kington Saint Michael, Wiltshire, England

Do you think it was relevant?

Further to my PM just now:

I had already seen the details about James Hathril in Kingston St. Michael but from experience I would have a tendency to say that the baptism in Brinkworth is the right one, especially with the names of the two parents.  There was a custom whereby the names of parents were often given to the first boy and girl, and this would tie up here.
