1861 Census Look Up Simes
« on: Thursday 27 January 05 13:28 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching my Simes routes in Sussex and would like to hear from anyone who knows the family. My Great, Great Grandfather Frederick W Simes was born in Sedlescombe in 1850 before moving to Gravesend in 1878. I do not know where he or the family lived in the meantime.
From the 1851 Census he is living at Hancox Farm Sedlescombe/Whatlington. His father is a farmer John Simes and mother is Caroline Simes from Hastings.
Does anyone have access to the 1861 or 1871 Sussex
census and can tell me whether the Simes family are listed - possibly in Hastings after 1860?

Hi Catherine,
can't help with the census information I'm afraid, but this looks to be the marriage of your 3x great grandfather,

From the Sussex Marriage Index:
Hastings St. Clement, East Sussex,  Date: 28 May 1840:
 John SIMES, Sedlescombe
 Caroline CROUCH
