Hello MattD30,

Continuing with your Shrubsole information:

Quote
By the way in 1820 Nathaniel married Sarah Chambers of Faversham. Here parents were James Chambers and Sarah Shrubsole!

Actually, Nathaniel married Sarah's sister, Martha Chambers.  Here's the entry:
Groom:  SMITH Nathaniel Shrubsole
Bride:  CHAMBERS Martha
Event:  M   06 Oct 1820
Notes:  bachelor, spinster, both of this parish - banns.
Wit: James Chambers
Place:  Faversham
Sources:  PR, BT

Martha CHAMBERS was christened 14 April 1801 in both the Faversham Parish Church and at Faversham, Partridge Lane Chapel.

Sarah CHAMBERS, the lady you mention above, married her cousin Samuel CHAMBERS 28 Jan 1813 -   bachelor, spinster, both of this parish at Faversham. Sources: PR, BT.

The Sarah SHRUBSOLE, wife of James CHAMBERS above, was the daughter of:
Groom:  SHRUBSOLE Nathaniel
Bride:  SCHOLER Elizabeth
Event:  M   24 Dec 1754
Place:  Faversham
Sources:  PR, AD
having been christened at Faversham on 02 Dec 1770.

So, Nathaniel Shrubsole SMITH married his first cousin, Martha CHAMBERS, as his mother (Elizabeth SHRUBSOLE) and Martha's mother (Sarah SHRUBSOLE) were sisters.

Now, as to Richard SMITH, I do not have any appropriate christening for him at Faversham, Ospringe, Preston-Faversham, Throwley, Badlesmere, Selling, Goodnestone-Faversham, Buckland-Faversham, Leaveland, Graveney, Challock, Great Chart, Little Chart, Bethersden, Pluckley, Lenham, Ashford, Chartham, Westwell or Luddenham.  At least, you now know where not to look for this item!

I hope this information helps you with your Shrubsole and Smith search.

I still have more that I can perhaps help you with, and again, will put it on separate postings.

Sincerely,
Zacktyr

Hello MattD30,

Can anyone do a look up in parish registers of Chilham, Molash, Whitstable, Goodestone, Boughton Aluph, Thanet (St Lawrence) and Challock for me?

I have, among the others mentioned in my previous post, Goodnestone-Faversham, Challock, at ready disposal and Chilham I can check for you during the week.

What entries are you in need of?

Sincerely,
Zacktyr

Hello MattD30,

Now to deal with the last big area of enquiries you had - DODD family, et al.

First, though, please be aware that very few registers extend back to the 1538 time frame.  A few found in Kent will stretch back to 1540 but most begin circa 1554-1558.  So, it is most unlikely that unless information comes from a Herald's visitation record, manorial record, or a Will, that you will be able to extend lineage earlier than the 1550s.

However, that being said, you will see that DODD is one of the surnames in my lineage.  I have a relatively large database of Dodds throughout Kent, in addition to my direct line, and have spent considerable time this summer trying to connect up all of the loose ends.  Please feel free to go to my website (see link on the left margin) and put in DODD surname as the search.  I have much, yet, to upload to the site (a busy schedule leaves me little time to housekeep my research) but I do know that among my notes there is data concerning the Mathew Dodd you mention.  Drop me an email from the link on that site and I will put you on my list of contacts for updates to the Dodd info.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Zacktyr

Wow what a lot of info Zacktyr, thanks! :)

I haven't looked at either of these families for a while so will have to look at my notes to see how all this fits together. Also the Dodds seem to be all over the place as you say they were widespread. The name is also found spelt Dod and in some bad transcriptions I've seen Dadd. As for Shrubsole, will that also seems t have a number of spelling variations.

I will have to have a good look at your posts to see how it all fits together. However if you have any more info or think you can offer any more help please pm me or email me at (*)

Thank you again.

Matt

Clive, I have moved your post regarding the HILLS and ELDRIDGE families so it is a new topic of it's own:

Hi Matt

I've got transcriptions of Molash & Boughton Aluph parish registers.

Betty

Hi Betty,
I am a newbie to this list researching the FRYER family from Boughton Aluph. Please can I ask for a couple of look up's if you are still able and willing?  Is there any chance at all please of looking up Baptism and a Prior Marriage :

According to the census's James Fryer Christened /Born between 1848-1850 son of George and Emily Fryer Boughton Aluph. (I have yet to obtain possible GRO index ref: Jun Qtr 1849)
The parents were married prior to Civil Regn est as eldest son Aaron was born abt 1840-1, I cant find any marriage in the GRO index.
I wonder if they married in the Parish ?? Allthough Emily was born Chilham,  I am hoping you are still able and willing. Any help very much appreciated.
Regards
Pav

Hello Pav, welcome to RootsChat :)

I'm happy to do these lookups for you, here's what I've found:

Boughton Aluph Baptisms.

There's two children for George & Emily FRYER, that's George & Walter in 1858 & 1861.

Nine children for George & Emily FRIAR.
3rd Sept 1848 James (George was a Labourer)
Details of the others if you want them.

No sign of a Marriage for George & Emily in Boughton Aluph so it probably did take place in Chilham.
