CANNOCK - WEETMANS
« on: Tuesday 19 August 08 18:01 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I am off to Stafford Archive and Cannock and Hednesfsord Thur and Fri (Iam from Yorkshire)
searching for anything and everything. and graves.
Does anyone know if 'Bentons Building' is still in Cannock.  I have an ancestor who was killed in a mining incident (1898)
Leacroft Colliery and lived in Bentons Buildings.
My Mum left Hednesford aged 8yr in 1928 and moved to Bidford upon Avon, does anyone know if there was a school in Hednesford and if it is still there.  anyother tips would be appreciated.

Caz

Hi Caz

If the buildings were anywhere near the colliery itself they've almost certainly gone as almost any trace of the past around 'Churchbridge', Cannock has been obliterated.

If you do find the building and would like a photo (or a picture of any other local features) just let me know.

There's a school on the NW side of Hednesford if you look at the 1880s OS map, not sure if it's still there though.

Good Luck!
